Wearable Art - Glass Art Jewelry with Contemporary Folk Paintings

This year I explored  various ways to use my painting collective in other forms of art. The medium that I am resonating with the most is using prints of my paintings in glass art jewelry. I am able to create pendants, rings, and earrings that feature my artwork and at the same to do at an affordable cost to my collectors. In the process I am finding "favorites" that collectors are purchasing, which is helping me get in touch with what people are most attracted to at different points throughout the year.

I have been creating many styles of pendants either Glass Pendants or Glass and Metal Pendants of various shapes. This has given me an opportunity to recreate more of the painting itself and they have resulted in stunning pieces of art on their own.

Once I was doing the pendants consistently, I began to explore with other jewelry pieces. Earrings were next. The excitement of seeing my artwork in such a small medium, the challenge was worthy.

Now my newest exploration of the art jewelry is in metal and glass adjustable rings. These have been fun and are truly for the art lover who indulges in wearable art.

I'm sure that I will continue to be adventurous and explore more and more styles of jewelry for my artwork.

Original Paintings vs. Art Prints Contemporary Folk Art by Jeanne Fry

For the longest time collectors continued to ask me if I had prints available of my paintings. Over the years I had only offered my original works and did not venture into reproducing it, but when the economy slowed down a few years ago I knew that things had to change to meet the need. At first I tried painting smaller works at lower prices, and while that did seem to help at the same time it was not offering me the time I would like to spend on larger pieces. This past year I was able to find a local printer who does a very nice quality laser print, allowing  me to offer art prints at an affordable price. Over time I have been growing that inventory, adding more of my previous paintings into the arena. Most times I do not offer a print until the original has sold, but if the painting is very popular and desired I have occasionally offered it as a print sooner.

I do not frame the prints, leaving that to the collector, so that they can choose their own frame to blend with their decor. I place them on xboard or back mat, sign and title the backs, and them insert them in a plastic sleeve to protect them during shipping.

I feel that this has been a better solution, as now I have been able to spend more time and inspired to work on my larger pieces which are still desired by those who want my originals.
Thank you to all of those who support my art.

A Weekend of Art and Nesting

The Cold month of December has brought the rapid arrival of Nesting to our home. While we continue to create our Artwork, at a bit a bit of a slower pace, we are also enjoying the simple things that winter brings in getting ready to settle down for the season.

My Frida Kahlo apron
Out comes the Frida Kahlo apron my mother gave me a few years ago and the baking proceeds.
I do a lot more cooking and baking in the winter, but find that I don't really end up eating more. It's more the "Meditation" that it provides. The repetitive stirring and chopping is very soothing to me, and clears the mind from it's clutter.

The Art Room needed cleaning, as clutter adds up quickly when I'm working on projects.

I spent both afternoons creating some small collage boards as gifts for family and friends.
Simple and Sweet, the colors are the most relaxing to me.

I did manage to finish a new original painting during all of the "feel good" activities.
Staying within my Wings theme as of late, the new painting is called Departure.

And along the way, I sleeved up some of my Art Prints that are for sale.

The Winter time is a very introspective time for me. This is when I usually spend a great deal of time writing, in order to chase away those old blues that can sneak in you during this season. So, spending my time on the "small stuff" , the things that make the memories, is very healing to me.

Choices in our Directions as Artists

Like the ebb and flow of time, so goes our directions as artists. Life experiences and a continual fine tuning of our philosophies, creates more possibilities to explore within our creativity.

We have studied the growth of our Art over the years, reflecting back over the changes from the beginning until now. Trying to stay conscious that our Art is speaking not only to us, but to those who collect it, we have made choices on where to currently expend our creative energies.

For example, over the years we only sold Original paintings, and did not dabble in offering prints of those works. But we have found that certain pieces deserve the opportunity to be offered in that way, in order to reach more people who resonate with the work. So now, specific Paintings and Photography that is meaningful to us, are offered in a new forum for our collectors through Fine Art America. Here you can choose to collect some of those works, in different sizes, on archival papers, on stretched canvas, matted, framed...all a choice for you. Each week I will add more to the collection and hope that it widens the scope of possibilities.

Our jewelry has also made a transition, not only from being solely created from gemstones, but now offering more mediums with clay, bone, and glass beads. But probably our biggest change is venturing in the use of one of our favorite Natural materials...the Gourd.

The Gourd is designed and cut, painted with layers of hue to enhance it's richness, and then embellished with a complimenting bead work. Each pendant is hung on long soft leather cord that can be adjusted in length.
What we love most about the Gourd jewelry, is the ability to offer our Gourd design, Painting, and Bead work...all in one piece. It also allows us to utilize more of the gourd, instead of wasting small pieces.

So, this new evolutionary period will produce...more Paintings, Prints, and Photography...a larger line of jewelry including more natural materials....a new line of Art Doll sculptures that will be revealed soon...a larger line of Gourd Rattles, Drums, and Cedar Flutes that utilizes a blend of contemporary yet still natural persona...and some things will be discontinued.

We will be choosing more galleries to show in, that will allow us to more time to spend on our Storytelling Performances  and Workshops, and hope that you enjoy the transition along with us.
