Luna Moth - Her Gift and Symbolism

The Luna Moth (Polyphemus Moth - Antheraea Polypehmus)  may be considered one of the most Spiritual and Mystical of animal totems. To meet one is a special gift, for when she is in her adult moth stage she only lives for approximately one week. While living through their adult moth life they do not eat, for they have no mouth. One might say that their purpose is to reproduce, but I say it is to Love. They are born, they transform, they love, they die, and then are again reborn. Their cycles are short, as are our years while we are here.
We are reminded to make the most of our moments and to Live and Love to the fullest. It is an appreciation for the simple magic of existence, and to explore it with excitement.

She is most often seen in the evenings, attracted to the moon and to light. She speaks of our connection to the Feminine, our inner spirit, trust in ourselves and our intuition. We learn of the importance in finding the balance between light and dark, the seen and the unseen.
She is a reminder that when all is said and done, our Healing, Authenticity, and Sense of Love are the ultimate journey.

I brought the beauty of the Luna Moth into one of my new paintings, titled "The Symbolic Journey of Faith and Love". It was created in an Art Nouveau style, bringing the White Butterflies, Dragonfly, and Luna Moths into the Mandala design.

The Luna Moth is one of my favorite totems. Isn't it grand that such a small piece of beauty, can make us gasp in delight like when we were children?

The Spirit of the Luna Moth is captured in this Handmade Gourd Art Bowl with Dried Grass Lacing. It was created using a beautiful gourd from one of our local gourd farms, the cleaned and cut into its shape. Using leather acrylics, the background of the gourd was painted in blended shades of browns with hints of mint green and beige running through it. - See more at: http://jeannefryart.indiemade.com/product/luna-moth-painted-gourd-art-bowl-dried-grass-lacing-earthy-decor-jeanne-fry#sthash.NyaYdDyG.dpuf

Miniature Traveling Shrines for Focused Intentions

I create my Art much like I live my life. I believe in Symbolism. Everything holds a meaning and has a symbolic purpose in our life. I honor nature and her diversity. I honor the animals and the lessons they teach. And I honor each thing that I bring into my home, for each has a purpose dear to my heart.
This week I worked on some miniature shrines, or traveling shrines, since they are so easy and portable to take wherever you want them. Each are a piece of mixed media altered art that began from an altoid tin. Hours were spent on their intentions, their color schemes, and their embellishments making sure that each step of the process was purposeful and precise.

When working with this grouping of shrines, I knew right away what each creation would be. I was creating one for The Love and Happiness of the Dragonfly, one for Reflection, one for Prosperity and Abundance, one for Bear Totem Medicine, and one honoring the perseverance and passion of Frida Kahlo.
Usually when I create a shrine I do so in a larger format and out of wooden boxes, but I do love the versatility of this small size.

"Unveiling of the Animal Totem Gathering" Animal Totem Gourd Mask

For the deep love I have for animal totems and their special meanings in our lives, I felt compelled to create a gourd mask that represented a few of my most admired ones. The creation is symbolic for the gathering of their energies and wisdom that they offer, including Heron, Crow, Deer, Hawk, Bear, Otter, Owl, Wolf, Lizard, and Dragonfly.

Animal Totem Gourd Mask "Unveiling of the Animal Totem Gathering"

"Unveiling the Animal Totem Gathering" was created to bring the energy of the animal totems to present, to learn from their symbolism, and remind one of their skills. The animals represented are Crow, Hawk, Heron, Bear, Otter, Dragonfly, Owl, Wolf, Lizard, and Deer. Their simple animal totem meanings are:
Crow: Manifesting, Magic, Creation
Heron: Graceful Transformation
Deer: Gentless, Grace, Nurturing
Otter: Happiness and Laughter in spite of the circumstances
Bear: Power, Decision Making, Healing
Dragonfly: Air and Water Element, Flight, Ariel Skills, Dance of Light
Hawk: Vision, Power, Seeking
Wolf: Community, Guardianship, Pack Oriented
Owl: Vision, Hunter, Omens, Wisdom
Lizard: Dreamtime, Intuition, Letting go of that which is not needed

Animal Totem Gourd Mask by Conscious Art Studios
"Unveiling of the Animal Totem Gathering" is an animal totem mask for wall display. The mask is created from a gourd which is shaped and cut and mounted on a wood plaque that measures 10 inches x 10 inches. The mask is painted with acrylics in burnt umber, turquoise, and tan colored and then detailed with animal totem silhouettes and tracks of the Crow, Heron tracks, Bear, Otter prints, Hawk, Dragonfly, Wolf prints, Lizard, and Owl. The mask was then sealed with a satin finish. A multitude of man created feathers were used to create the crown of the mask representing a number of bird totems. The plaque was painted in burnt umber with tan colored designs and has a hanger installed on the back for display purposes. The piece in it's entirety measures 14 inches x 14 inches.
This piece is to be shipped double boxed to protect the feather work and will be insured.

If you would like to acquire this special piece you can view it's listing here in my Artfire Studio

Dragonfly Totem Meaning

Dragonflies are one of the most beautiful and delicate animal totems to work with. They will usually  show up when one needs to be reminded of keeping a balance in their emotions. It reminds us to look at different perspectives and to live in the present.

The dragonfly's beauty of light and color encourage us to let our own light shine, and in turn encourages others to do the same. They can inspire us with their balance of skill, agility, and strength while all the while doing so with grace and ease.
Their excellent aeriel skills, symbolic of gliding gracefully through life with it's many twists and turns, can lead us by example to do the same

Day of the Dead Painting 2011

This year to celebrate Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos),I created a new original painting named Madame Dragonfly.

It was important to me to integrate the Dragonflies into the painting, for their symbolism of Light and Transformation. It is the carrying on and honoring of the beauty that was exuded in life, that now transitions into that next place that is the intention of focus.
She herself is a dragonfly, Madame Dragonfly, as you can see by her wings. She is  surrounded by 4 small dragonflies that on close inspection will show that they thmeselves are dragonfly skeletons. She emminates beauty and vibrance in both worlds.

The painting is not available any longer, please stay tuned for this year's featured Day of the Dead painting in our Artfire Studio
