The Council of the Winged Ones, Original Contemporary Folk Art

Over the past two years my art has been greatly inspired by Bird Totems. I have also focused a large amount of artwork around the Earth and Sky. The symbolism of the Winged Ones has enchanted me, for they are able to navigate the bridge between the Earth and Sky, representing their freedom of flight and being able to soar through life. They are able to wander through those things that are bigger than ourselves.

For me personally, I know that as I move through periods of personal growth, bird totems are always present. They are here to inspire and broaden my perspectives on life and living. They remind me that all things are possible, and encourage me to stay connected to my higher self.
I brought this painting to life to represent the Winged Ones and their wisdom. They are represented as a council, bringing a call to order amongst themselves, to share their own wisdom on the paths that they follow. Their diversity as strong beings and teachers is of great importance as they come together in council. Their visions are shared for the greater good.

Within the painting I brought together the Owl (wisdom and vision), the Crow (messages and manifestation), the Cardinal (strength of spirit, passion, inner voice), the Heron (transformation and grace), the Robin (periods of growth and opportunity), the Eagle (sacredness of Spirit and healing), the Bluejay (power and the right use of will), the Hummingbird ( happiness and enjoying the moment), and the Hawk ( power and vision).  The lessons and medicine that these Winged Ones bring is immense and symbolic for us two-leggeds.

"Unveiling of the Animal Totem Gathering" Animal Totem Gourd Mask

For the deep love I have for animal totems and their special meanings in our lives, I felt compelled to create a gourd mask that represented a few of my most admired ones. The creation is symbolic for the gathering of their energies and wisdom that they offer, including Heron, Crow, Deer, Hawk, Bear, Otter, Owl, Wolf, Lizard, and Dragonfly.

Animal Totem Gourd Mask "Unveiling of the Animal Totem Gathering"

"Unveiling the Animal Totem Gathering" was created to bring the energy of the animal totems to present, to learn from their symbolism, and remind one of their skills. The animals represented are Crow, Hawk, Heron, Bear, Otter, Dragonfly, Owl, Wolf, Lizard, and Deer. Their simple animal totem meanings are:
Crow: Manifesting, Magic, Creation
Heron: Graceful Transformation
Deer: Gentless, Grace, Nurturing
Otter: Happiness and Laughter in spite of the circumstances
Bear: Power, Decision Making, Healing
Dragonfly: Air and Water Element, Flight, Ariel Skills, Dance of Light
Hawk: Vision, Power, Seeking
Wolf: Community, Guardianship, Pack Oriented
Owl: Vision, Hunter, Omens, Wisdom
Lizard: Dreamtime, Intuition, Letting go of that which is not needed

Animal Totem Gourd Mask by Conscious Art Studios
"Unveiling of the Animal Totem Gathering" is an animal totem mask for wall display. The mask is created from a gourd which is shaped and cut and mounted on a wood plaque that measures 10 inches x 10 inches. The mask is painted with acrylics in burnt umber, turquoise, and tan colored and then detailed with animal totem silhouettes and tracks of the Crow, Heron tracks, Bear, Otter prints, Hawk, Dragonfly, Wolf prints, Lizard, and Owl. The mask was then sealed with a satin finish. A multitude of man created feathers were used to create the crown of the mask representing a number of bird totems. The plaque was painted in burnt umber with tan colored designs and has a hanger installed on the back for display purposes. The piece in it's entirety measures 14 inches x 14 inches.
This piece is to be shipped double boxed to protect the feather work and will be insured.

Owl Totem and the Mystery

Owl Totem and the Mystery
Owls have intrigued us two-legged for many years, primarily because they are a nocturnal bird. They see in the night what we do not see, and they hear in the night what we do not hear. They carry a wisdom that is primarily unknown to us, that of the Mystery.

They are aware of the Shadows, the things that exist that we are not aware of, and  the things we do not understand. Studying the Owl Totem, helps us learn to be conscious of our surroundings, and the motivations of others. It helps us reveal secrets.

The Great Horned Owl looks as if he has ears, although they are truly tufts of feathers. Symbolically he seems to be able to hear, what we can not.

Their flight is silent, helping them in their hunt, and is a good reminder to us that when we are "seeking", it may be best to be silent and observant in order for the answers to come to light.

Owl Totem and it's Symbolic Meaning

Owls have been intriguing humans for years.
This nocturnal bird wears a cloak that symbolizes the Mystery.

It's amazing eyesight is representative of perception and new visions opening up to you...the ability to be aware of things that others may overlook and to see things in new ways.

Owl wings have a fringe that provides them with silent flight, which is a useful lesson for us, teaching us that sometimes it is best to be silent about our ventures in order to bring the greatest success.

They carry a wisdom of the darkness, of the nocturnal, of the unseen. While some fear this wisdom, truly it affords us a balance of light and dark, a balance of the obvious and the hidden.

Owl totem medicine is extensive and for those who are studying the owl, would benefit from learning about the different types of owls to realize their depth.
